FLOWERS FOR E-WASTE – autumn 2024

Date: 23/09/2024

BLOOMING HEATHERS IN EXCHANGE FOR ELECTRONIC WASTE.

The autumn edition of the nationwide educational project “FLOWERS FOR E-WASTE 2024” took place between 19 and 21 September. Electronic waste collection was carried out by all CASTORAMA stores (including Smart, Express, Brico Depot), as well as the chain’s headquarters. Participants brought waste electrical and electronic equipment to exchange it for seedlings of heather.

CONTINUOUS RAISING OF ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS

Since 2011, the recurring campaign “FLOWERS FOR E-WASTE”, organised by CASTORAMA POLSKA and AURAEKO OOSEE S.A., has been successfully raising environmental awareness among users of electrical and electronic equipment. This initiative has contributed to increased levels of selective collection, recovery, and recycling of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment). CASTORAMA customers, who participated in the campaign in large numbers, have once again demonstrated that Polish society is becoming increasingly environmentally aware and engaged. Together we can do more. Participants of the campaign understand that with their everyday choices they have a real impact on the condition of the environment around them.

WHAT HAPPENS TO THE COLLECTED E-WASTE?

Electronic waste brought to the collection point will be safely processed and the secondary raw materials recovered in the recycling process will be put back into circulation. They will no longer pose a threat to the environment. Thanks to selective collection and recycling, we protect and efficiently use the Earth’s natural resources. What is more, we also save energy. It is estimated that using recycled raw materials for the production of new products makes it possible to save up to 85% of the energy needed to manufacture a new product from primary raw materials. This makes us happy and motivates us to continue our actions. Collection and professional recycling of the collected waste was provided by MB Recycling.
